Time waits for no Man:

Ever since the beginning of time man has wanted to tell his story; he has left written history on the walls of caves and on stone tablets, telling of what he has done. Throughout the ages there has been some improvement in the way stories have been told; although there are still people in isolated parts of the world that do not have a written language, these tribes have relied on story telling at gatherings around a fire. This demonstrates that many more stories have been told, than has been written as published articles.

As the written word came into being it has been put into the written language of their ancestry. Still, I suppose we could call this publishing in a primitive sort of way.

Now this comes down to you, how do you want to tell your story? On the wall of a cave or in a fine looking book either published by others or maybe you will do it yourself.

This is what it's all about, the self-publishing of your own book.

The following are excerpts from my book "Self Publishing Soft Cover Books"
Solving problems!

When I started writing my book I was looking for a publisher to do the book for me. With all the negative information I received I soon gave up on the effort of getting my book published by a pro.

In looking at other book binding tools on the web I was soon convinced that I could publish and bind my own book. However I now needed a book binding press (as every one calls them). I call them Jigs and fixtures. Anyway I experimented with a few different methods and came up with a simple and expedient way of clamping and gluing my books into a soft cover book.

Now, I have become more than an 89 year old Author for now I have to get these Jigs and Fixtures out to other self publishers to use as they might want an easy and simple way of putting their books together.

You want to get it published.

HA--HA!

Writing your book was the easy part, now you need to find a publisher, I hope you have been researching for one while working on your story. I can give you addresses of many but you probably would get the same reception that I got. "Were to busy, send in a manuscript and we will look it over and get back to you. Or we don’t do poetry, etc."

So now lets talk about self-publishing There are many reasons to self publish. The most important one is that you retain ownership of your book. A publisher would own the rights to your book and market it at their price and also receive all future orders. Of course they would send you a check for about 10 to 15% of the sales.

Another way to self publish is make your pages camera ready and send it out in manuscript form to a publisher that specializes in printing for self publishing authors. They do not own your book they just print it for you. Also they do not set the price, or market them, that is your job.

You must have all pictures in order, just the way the printing company wants them to be and the pages would have to be marked where the pictures were to be placed.

So you see self publishing a book is like building a house, you can sublet some of the work out to a print shop and maybe get your book printed and bound or you can do it your self one stick at a time.

Self-publishing still has its drawbacks. You will have to make the covers, print the book, put it together by binding and gluing and then get out and sell the book to all your friends. When you run out of friends you will most likely go to the Internet to market it. Is this o/k with you?

Yes! Then next you have to decide how do you want your book bound? Plastic coil, wire coil, three ring binder or maybe soft cover binding with a glued spine so as to be able to set the book on a shelf with the title showing like the paper back book

I hope you understand that your book will not be a money making experience by any means, just hope to recover some of the expenses you have incurred.
